Various modes of transport are available in Thailand, all are easy to access and most traveler friendly. Tourism being the mainstay of the Thai economy the government has put millions of baht into the infrastructure of their public transport services and airports.

Bus
The bus is a cheap and relatively inexpensive way to travel Thailand, also known as the land of smiles. In Bangkok there are the Southern Bus Treminal Satani Rot bus Sai Tai, Mo Chit Bus terminal Satani Rot Bus Mo Chit and Satani Rot Bus Ekkamai Servicing the whole of the country. From these bus terminals you can get a bus to Udon Thani, Chiang Mai, Phuket or Hat yai and everywhere in-between!

As well as these terminals there are also more local bus stations. Every large city will have its own and it is very easy to find your way to the nearest one. Most Thais will travel by bus when visiting friends and family so just ask and they will be able to point you in the right direction. If that fails almost all Tuk Tuk and Taxi drivers will be able to take you right to the door!

Train
Satani Rot Fai Hua Lumporng is the only overland long distance train station in Bangkok with lines heading North East, North West and South. The trains in Thailand have 3 classes, along with some standing sections.

All are relatively cheap and you can also obtain overnight sleeper trains to Chiang Mai and the south respectively. It is up to your budget the class that you will choose but if sleeping on the train it is much more comfortable to get first class and when comparing the price to that in your home country you will find it very reasonable.

Plane
Many low cost airlines have come and go in the past few years of Thailand’s aviation industry and the beach resort towns of Phuket, the mountains of the north and the plains of the north east all have their own international and domestic airports making flights within and to the Kingdom readily available and easy to obtain.

However if you have the time, we advise to take one of the public modes of transport. They are a fraction of the cost and are a much greener way to travel. Plus if time is on your hands the journey can become more fun than the destination. Most Busses and trains will have numerous stops along the way, offering an insight into the local’s way of traveling. Take it easy, snoop around the sleepy back towns and villages and experience the real Thailand. It is easy to find, you just have to get out of the normal tourist circuit and explore!

Rental Car / Motorbike
At most hotel receptions, guesthouses and even some home stays there will be either Motorbikes or cars for rent. Prices vary from town to town but they are readily available. Just ask at your hotel lobby, local counter tour or host family to see if there are any bikes or cars available.

Please be aware that in Thailand the driving can be a little different to other parts of the world. Only rent a car/bike if you have a full international driving license and adhere to the Thai road traffic laws such as keeping your helmet on when riding a bike otherwise you will be in for heavy fines if caught.
