TwitterSome of the Andaman Sea’s most endangered species are turtles. From the 4 species known to inhabit the Andaman region (Hawksbill, Leatherback, Green and Loggerhead) 3 species make their nests on the beaches of Southern Thailand just once a year. Before nesting in their hundreds the numbers of turtle in the area have dwindled. This tour will take you to see the remaining females which nest on Thai Muang beach in Phang Nga Province.
Day
1
Pick up from Hotels on Phuket Island by minivan and transfer to Phuket Aquarium. From here view the myriad species which inhabit the Andaman Sea. Explore the center which is home to breeding adult turtles and view baby turtles which are all at different stages in their life cycle. Your local guide will give you information about their conservation and what the center is doing for their wellbeing and at what stage they are ready for release.
After Phuket aquarium head north and onto lunch at one of the famous local restaurants here on Phuket Island. A delicious array of local Thai food will be served in a relaxed family friendly environment. After lunch head off Phuket Island and into Phang Nga Province, once one of the riches provinces in Thailand due to the tin mining industry. From here head to Phang Nga’s Tap Lamu Turtle release center. Run on donations and small government grants the center cares for and releases turtles carefully reared from eggs until around 6 months old. Discover where these turtles come from and how the center is trying to improve the situation of Thailand’s sea turtles.
Check
into your air conditioned rooms in Thai Muang. After Check in there is the
chance to enjoy the famous sunset of the Andaman Sea from one of the deserted
beaches in the area, beer and wine is available for an idyllic sundowner.
Return to the resort where dinner is served and enjoy a traditional Thai meal
with local delicacies and deserts. After dinner there is time to relax at the
resort before heading to Thai Muang beach.
Here we will meet with one of the local park rangers who will be our guide for the evening. The ranger will take us to the most likely place the turtles are nesting. Walking along the beach at night in search of nesting females is a unique experience in itself. The anticipation of finding turtles creates a special atmosphere. If we are lucky we will find one of the few nesting females laying eggs on the beach, a truly magical experience. Return transfer to the resort and overnight.
Day
2
Take a leisurely breakfast before departing to Ton Prai waterfall in Khao Lampi National Park. Arriving at the National Park we will take a short nature walk along forest streams to experience one of the most spectacular of Phang Nga’s waterfalls. Time for swimming and relaxation at the waterfall is available before heading back to the park headquarters and onwards to lunch. Traditional Thai food is served at one of the delicious local restaurants. Enjoy the last moments of your tour here in Phang Nga before returning back to your hotels in the afternoon.

note: Tour run only during turtle nesting season. Due to the turtles rarity in
the wild we cannot guarantee you will see nesting turtles.
This tour is a small group tour and maximum number of guests in one group is 8 people.
What to bring: Small overnight bag with change of clothes and swimwear. Comfortable walking shoes or sandals, camera and raincoat.
